This weekend we have boys and girls flying to the East coast to from the Santa Monica Dragons & Fire Lacrosse Clubs compete in our event and they are dedicating their trip to raising money for fire victims in California. Players in their program and in their respective high school and youth programs have been directly affected by the Woolsey Fire in Ventura County, CA. They are hoping to use lacrosse as a vehicle to help those in need during this difficult time. The fires have burned over 96,000 acres (as of 11/13) and are only 35% contained. The expected date for full containment is 11/18. So far, roughly 435 homes and businesses have been destroyed, with another 24 with damage The damage is so significant school authorities canceled school through 11/23.
Tragic as it may be, this event has shown how much lacrosse means to these players, and we only hope to return the support to them and other families that have given so much to this game. When it came time to evacuate, some of the Dragons/Fire players, with few options and no time to grab valuables packed their jerseys and lacrosse gear over anything else.
They have created a RallyUp.com under the name Fire Lacrosse Relief (https://go.rallyup.com/firelacrosserelief) to collect funds for lacrosse families in the Ventura County area affected by this disaster. The fund is administered by a non-profit and all donations are tax-deductible.
We would very much appreciate if you could assist in helping the relief effort in these communities devasted by these tragic fires.
2018 Rosters will be posted the week of the Showcase.
